Test and Preview File Downloads

It's a great idea to preview your books after uploading new titles to your NetGalley account so you can confirm it looks as expected.

To test all options, we recommend you create and click on a widget link to your book while logged into your NetGalley member account (different from your client login). Create a member login here if you don’t already have one (choose the Book Trade Professional member type). You will need to use a different email address from the one linked to your NetGalley client account.

TIP: First create the widget in your client account, then paste the link into an incognito/Private tab or window. Navigate to the widget login page and sign in using your member account. Your book will now appear on your Shelf!

You can now preview your digital reading copy on the NetGalley Reader, NetGalley Shelf app, on a computer, and/or on a Kindle device. To preview audio books, please only use the NetGalley Shelf app (option 2 below).

  1. The NetGalley Reader, for in-browser reading (recommended)
From your NetGalley member account, click on the “Open in NetGalley Reader” link on the Title Details page of your book, from your Shelf, or visit the NetGalley Reader tab in the navigation bar.
  2. On the NetGalley Shelf app (recommended)
Download the NetGalley Shelf app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. When prompted, log in with your NetGalley member ID and password. This is different from your company login. Create a member login here if you don’t already have one (choose the Book Trade Professional member type). You will not need to do this again once you’ve signed in.
Any books your member account has been approved for will automatically appear in your NetGalley Shelf app going forward.
  3. On a computer
Download the Free Thorium Reader app here (available for Windows 10 & 11, MacOS, and Linux).

Click the Download button from the Title Details page of your book. Then, open the Thorium Reader app on your computer and click on “+ Import publication” in the Thorium Reader app. Locate and click on the .lcpl file you downloaded (files typically download to your “downloads”
The first time you open a file in an LCP-supported device or app, you will be asked for your passphrase. Your passphrase is your NetGalley member login. Once you enter your passphrase correctly, the full file will download and open!

  4. On a Kindle device
Ensure that your Kindle email address is added to your NetGalley member account in your Settings, under “Devices”. Please also be sure that kindle@netgalley.com is an approved email to send to your Kindle. You will not need to do this again after setting this up. Click here for complete instructions for using your Kindle with NetGalley.
In your NetGalley member account, click “Send to Kindle” from the Title Details page for this book.
