NetGalley Promotion or Booktrovert Campaign?

We know publishers and authors have many different goals for their marketing efforts. We’re here to help! NetGalley is proud to offer options for a variety of budgets and audiences. When considering whether to include your book in a NetGalley Promotion or a Booktrovert Campaign, first consider your intended audience and what goal you’re trying to reach.

Think about Booktrovert campaigns differently from and in addition to your NetGalley efforts. Read this case study to learn how Harper360 used both, for different goals!

Audience

welcome_xl.png NetGalley: Book advocates and industry professionals like booksellers, book trade professionals, educators, librarians, reviewers, journalists and other members of the media.

Booktrovert Mark Color Square.pngBooktrovert: General readers who are potential book buyers – a much wider audience that includes any consumer. NetGalley members are also consumers!

Call to Action (CTA) & Goals

welcome_xl.png NetGalley Promotions are most successful when they drive to your book on NetGalley. Request or Read Now CTAs, encouraging trade professionals to download and review books via their NetGalley account, generally result in the highest click-through rates (CTRs). Your goals for NetGalley Promotions may include generating reviews, leveraging the influence of different kinds of book advocates such as booksellers and librarians), introducing a new imprint or building brand loyalty, and more.

Booktrovert Mark Color Square.pngBooktrovert campaign CTAs allow readers to claim a giveaway copy, purchase or pre-order a book, or enter into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a limited number of copies. These campaigns target general readers/consumers with a goal to drive direct engagement, build awareness of your book(s) or brand, and influence purchasing decisions.

Publisher-created campaigns may include multiple books, with various CTAs (Sweepstakes, Giveaway, Buy, Pre-Order). A link to the campaign may be shared widely, or limited to only a publisher's own targeted list.

  •
    •
      • Public Campaign: Campaign appears on Booktrovert.com for anyone to access. Publisher is encouraged to share the link anywhere and everywhere!

      • Private Campaign: Campaign does not appear on Booktrovert.com. The only way readers will know about a private campaign is if the publisher sends them a direct link. For instance, as part of a publisher-run online book club, as follow up to an event where you collected email addresses or badge scans, etc.

Flexibility & Scale

Booktrovert Mark Color Square.pngBooktrovert is designed to support campaigns of all sizes—from small, highly-targeted private campaigns, to large-scale bursts of intense traffic. Publishers have the flexibility to build campaigns that are private (limited access to exclusive audiences who you reach via your own channels/lists) or public (reaching the Booktrovert community, in addition to any audiences who may widely share the campaign). Either way, you’ll get a link to your campaign landing page, which you can share to drive traffic to your campaign.

Examples of private Booktrovert campaigns:

  • Giveaway to an author-led book club: Campaign landing page shared by the author to their specific mailing list and active for only 24 hours.
  • Earliest pre-order opportunity given to attendees at an event: Campaign landing page shared via follow up email.

Examples of large-scale traffic Booktrovert campaigns:

  • Highly popular, bestselling author sharing a sweepstakes link on social media. This type of author may want the widest reach for a full 7 days, with 200 winners at the end of the campaign.
  • Influencer campaign where a mega influencer shares a Buy Now campaign landing page with their followers, with a special discount pricing just for them.

Timing

welcome_xl.pngNetGalley’s powerful tools like scheduled availability by member type, the pre-approved widget link and a diverse offering of Promotions are very flexible, allowing you to strategically invite and advertise to highly tailored audiences at the exact right time.

Booktrovert Mark Color Square.pngBooktrovert campaign pages are active for seven (7) days. After seven days the campaign page will still be visible, but your preferred retail links will appear in place of the campaign CTA. Giveaways offer unlimited quantities and can be claimed instantly, but entrants must act quickly! Giveaways begin at Noon ET but are only active for a limited amount of time. Keep this in mind when scheduling a Giveaway campaign to make sure it coincides (if needed) with particular events, social influencer campaigns, etc.

Pricing

welcome_xl.png NetGalley: Pricing for NetGalley Promotions varies based on the type of promotion and, in the case of email promotions, number of recipients and/or placement within the email. Prices are outlined on pages 4-6 of the NetGalley Media Kit, and publishers will receive an invoice for payment.

Booktrovert Mark Color Square.pngBooktrovert: Campaigns are priced per-book and based on the CTA (call to action). You may add up to 10 books to a campaign, each with a different CTA. Optional add-on advertising and detailed analytics will also impact the final price of a campaign. You will be prompted to pay online by credit card when you finalize your campaign, or you can apply your balance if you pre-paid for multiple campaigns. Use this form to request pre-payment in bulk for campaigns, and we’ll generate an invoice for you.
